About Dobbs County

In 1779 Wayne County was formed from the western half of Dobbs County. Twelve years later, in 1791, the remainder of Dobbs County was divided into Lenoir and Glasgow (Greene after 1799), and Dobbs County thus ceased to exist. The early records of Dobbs County were destroyed when the Lenoir County Court House was burned in 1878.

The Old Dobbs County Genealogical Society seeks to preserve the histroy of Old Dobbs County along with the histroy and genealogy of its families. The Society meets on the fourth Saturday of March, June, September and December to promote friendship and exchange information. Members receive quarterly issues of the newsletter "Olde Dobbs Trail" along with the opportunity to send and receive information through the newsletter.
