I am looking for John BIRD/BYRD father of Thomas BIRD/BYRD b 1778, d 1845 in KY. My only clues that the father of Thomas is John are that Thomas's second son was named John, and in the 1880 census, another son said that his father was born in NC. My info on where there were John Bird/Byrd(s) comes from "FTM Census Index: Colonial America 1607-1789". This shows John Birds in Bute Co in 1771; in Chowan Co in 1721; in Dobbs Co in 1769; in Granville Co in 1755; in Charleston Dist in 1778, and a John Burd in Orange Co in 1755.

I am researching the BRADSHAW family of Wayne County, North Carolina. Is there any chance that Mary SPEIGHT was married more than one time. My dad's uncle, Fred Bradshaw was married to a Mary Speight. Fred was a twin. Daddy grew up in a community called Faro, which is surrounded by Wayne, Green, and Wilson county.

Searching for traces of the family of my great-grandfather, John William GAY. John was born in 1861 in Snow Hill, Greene County. His father, William Richard GAY would have been born about 1832, where I can't find. From census records, I know he was in Wilson County in 1860, and I know that he died in Richmond of a belly wound in 1864, when John was three. John returned to Wayne County with his mother. John stated in 1902 that his grandfather was William GAY. He also told his son that either his father or grandfather ran a "jewelry shop" in Snow Hill and that one of them "killed a deer and the deer killed him". The deer was shot but not killed, and when approached so that whichever could kill him, reared up and gored the hunter in the chest. Does ANYBODY have this family in their records?

Hardy LAMB, my great-great-great grandfather, died in Wayne County, NC, in 1810. I have a copy of his will. I am descended from one of his sons, Miles, who moved to Sumter County, Georgia, about 1842. Jacob and Joshua LAMB, Hardy's father and grandfather respectively, show up in deed books of Old Dobbs and Johnston counties.

My OATES are: James OATES born in Dobbs Co. NC and died 1815 in Duplin, Sampson Co. NC. He married Mary Ann WYATT of Sampson Co. NC.James's father was Joseph OATES and mother was Elizabeth WYATT. Elizabeth's parents were John WYATT and Rachel CALLOWAY. I'm a little confused as to which of Josph's sons my line decends from and am trying to muddle my way through. I know for a fact that Stephen OATES( I think James is his father) died in N.C. in 1835. He was on his way to Alabama with his family. His wife was Elizabeth SHIPP. She went on to Alabama and raised her family. My line is from this family. The confusion comes from all these OATES having the same names each generation and seem to be marrying cousins or members of the same family. I have found wills and pedigreeds showing the family tree but keep getting the feeling that a generation has been skipped somewhere in the tree.

John Coor PENDER and Hardy PENDER. I am seeking information on the family/ancestors of John Coor Pender, who was an early Sheriff of Wayne County who was murdered around 1814. I have a fair amount of information on his COOR relations that I am willing to share. Was his father Hardy PENDER? My e-mail address is below in the body of this message.
