EDWARDS, FOSTER, GARDNER, HOMANS, JORDAN, STANDLEY posted by Larry Stanley on Wednesday, March 15, 2000

I am seeking any information possible about the STANDLEY family in North Carolina before the Revolution. The family of George and Bethia Lovett STANDLEY from Essex County, MA is represented in NC by their son, Jonathan who married Elizabeth FOSTER. Jonathan and Elizabeth had at least one son, Jonathan who married Ann GARDNER. The name of Sans or Sands appears in this family, and I have not found it in any other family. I am specifically interested in Sands Standley who was in Johnston County, NC land deeds 1746-1750 and 1756-1757. He would have been born in the 1720s. He is about the same age as Sands who married Margaret HOMANS, but I have believed they stayed in MA. My premise is that the older Sands was father to Sands b. 1742 (married Zilpha EDWARDS) and Shadrack b. abt 1750 (married Penninah JORDAN). It would appear that he was a son or nephew of Jonathan and Elizabeth Foster STANDLEY. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

BRIGHT, DICKERSON, DICKINSON, GRANT posted by Mary Jane Poole on Saturday, April 22, 2000

Hello, I am searching the family of Michael GRANT, who was born ca 1750 or before. He first appeared on th Dobbs Co 1771. He purchased land in Dobbs, now Wayne Co in the Walnut Creek area. I am most interested in his daughter Nancy whom I believe had gone to Green Co and had a son by the name of John Jackson Grant. He was listed on the Green Co census for many years. He also married a Nancy. Since Green Co is a burned Co, I am seeking some kind of info on Nancy Grant and her father Michael. Hoping someone would have a link to the family and could help me with the connection to John Jackson Grant in Green Co. Thank you very much for any help you might be able to provide. Mary Jane Poole

CUMMIN, DICKSON posted by Frances Trimble on Thursday, May 4, 2000

I was given the following information: "Dobbs County - James Cummin named as friend in will of John Dickson 16 April 1869. No probate." I would like to acquire the complete abstract of this record if not a copy of the original document. Can anyone suggest how best to do this? Was John Dickson kin to General Joseph Dickson? EVANS, MANNING, NEWTON, PERRY, RAMSEY posted by Betty Ramsey on Sunday, May 28, 2000

Seeking information on Thomas RAMSEY who appears on the Dobbs County 1769 Tax List. Our ancestor is Thomas RAMSEY who was in New Hanover county by 1778 applying for land patents there. His will was filed in New Hanover in 1815. Executor was "my friend Moses Manning". Thomas's first son was Thomas, JR, second son Moses, then James Harvey, and Nathan. Descendants are named Moses for 5 generations, also a James Perry, George Newton, and a daughter married an Evans. The names of Moses MANNING, NEWTON, PERRY and EVANS all appear in this same tax list. We believe that they are all interelated somehow and moved from Dobbs to New Hanover, possibly together. Any help is appreciated. . Thanks, Betty
